Lynn Almond honored with emeritus status
Lynn Almond, Associate Professor of Practice of Accounting and Information Systems in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech, has been conferred the title of Associate Professor of Practice Emeritus of Accounting and Information Systems by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.
Lynn is a Virginia Tech alum, receiving his bachelor’s degree (1977) and master’s degree in accounting (1988) from the Pamplin College of Business. Lynn worked in industry for manufacturing firms and consulted with a firm that worked with companies in financial distress before joining the Virginia Tech faculty in 2010.
Lynn taught financial and managerial accounting courses for 14 years. He coordinated large enrollment courses in Principles of Accounting for the past 13 years.
Lynn helped organize the Virginia Accounting and Auditing Conference for the past ten years, serving on the board of directors, as treasurer, and as chair of the planning committee. This conference is a partnership between the VSCPA and Virginia Tech that has been offered to accounting professionals throughout Virginia for 54 years.
Lynn served as a volunteer faculty advisor for student organizations including the Accounting Society and the International Students, Inc. He was a liaison with the accounting firms and supported the department through his participation in activities to recruit students to the accounting profession. He was active in helping students find internships and employment opportunities throughout his time at Virginia Tech.
Throughout his career, Almond served as an engaged liaison with the accounting firms that support the department through his participation in activities including his roles in CPA professional organizations. Almond made numerous presentations at national academic meetings to improve the teaching of accounting. He provided many years of distinguished contributions to the department, college, and university through dedicated service on numerous committees.
