For the ninth straight year, Virginia Tech was chosen as a Diversity Champion and bestowed the 2024 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from Insight Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education.

As a recipient of the annual HEED Award, a national honor recognizing U.S. colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion, Virginia Tech will be featured, along with 113 other recipients, in the magazine's November/December 2024 issue.

“The HEED Award recognizes many efforts across campus, including our commitment to the Ut Prosim (That I May Serve) difference and the role of this work in supporting access and belonging for our students,” said Menah Pratt, vice president for strategic affairs and diversity. “We are honored to be recognized by Insight Into Diversity for the ninth year, and look forward to continuing to elevate InclusiveVT, the institutional and individual commitment to Ut Prosim in the spirit of community, diversity, and excellence.”

The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine also was chosen for the seventh consecutive year for the Health Professions Higher Education in Diversity (HEED) Award.

“The HEED Award process consists of a comprehensive and rigorous application that includes questions relating to the recruitment and retention of students and employees — and best practices for both — leadership support for diversity, campus culture and climate, supplier diversity, and many other aspects of campus diversity and inclusion,” said Lenore Pearlstein, publisher of Insight Into Diversity magazine. “We take a detailed approach to reviewing each application in deciding who will be named a HEED Award recipient. Our standards are high, and we look for institutions where diversity and inclusion are woven into the work being done every day across their campus.”
