Greg Young named Mary Virginia Jones Research Professor in Rocketry
Greg Young, associate professor of aerospace and ocean engineering at Virginia Tech, has been named the Mary Virginia Jones Research Professor in Rocketry by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.
The creation of this professorship in the College of Engineering allows Virginia Tech to generate new interest in rocketry. It was established with a gift from Mary Virginia Jones.
A member of the Virginia Tech community since 2020, Young has built new laboratories and facilities in the Prices Fork Research Facility and at the Advanced Propulsion and Power Laboratory to support his groundbreaking research in solid rocket propellant and fuel science, technology, and manufacturing.
Young has graduated eight master's degree and Ph.D. students, and in the last four years, he has published 21 journal papers and 21 conference papers. He has developed a new graduate course in high-speed propulsion and serves as faculty advisor for the Virginia Tech student chapter of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
Young earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Penn State University and his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland.
