U.S. News & World Report ranks Pamplin’s part-time Evening MBA program No. 1 in Virginia
The program also ranked No. 3 in the greater Washington, D.C., metro area, according to the recently released report.
Virginia Tech’s part-time Evening MBA program continues to be the top-ranked part-time MBA program in Virginia, according to a survey released by U.S. News & World Report. The program, with classes taught at the Northern Virginia Center, is also ranked as the No. 3 program in the greater Washington, D.C., metro area.
U.S. News & World Report annually ranks part-time MBA degree programs for working professionals and individuals unable to attend full-time due to family, job-related, or financial commitments. The rankings aim to assist prospective students in finding their ideal college fit. According to U.S. News & World Report criteria, to qualify for ranking, a business school needed to be accredited in the summer of 2022 by AACSB International – the gold standard of business program accreditation.
The publication conducted surveys of business schools between fall 2022 and early 2023 to collect part-time program data for six ranking factors: peer assessment score, part-time student ratio, part-time students total, GMAT/GRE scores, undergraduate grade point average, and work experience.
The part-time Evening MBA program offered by the Pamplin College of Business is designed to accommodate full-time working professionals, allowing them to pursue an MBA at their own pace while simultaneously enriching their workplace experiences with newfound knowledge and skills. The program's flexible, in-person class format enhances the MBA experience, fostering active participation in lectures and discussions, facilitating collaboration among peers, and providing opportunities to engage with Virginia Tech's esteemed faculty as well as to network with accomplished alumni.
“The program is tailored for working professionals, fostering a dynamic learning environment where individuals can pursue their MBA at their own pace,” said Dana Hansson, director of MBA programs. “The part-time Evening MBA program not only equips students with essential knowledge and skills but also cultivates strong connections with the vast Hokie Nation, shaping tomorrow's leaders today.”
Beginning in 2025, the part-time Evening MBA program will relocate to the Virginia Tech Innovation Campus in Alexandria. The state-of-the-art, 300,000-square-foot, 11-story building set to open in spring 2025 will provide a cutting-edge environment for the graduate programs. Located adjacent to the Potomac Yard-VT Metrorail Station, the 3.5-acre Innovation Campus positions Virginia Tech and its future partners near the nation’s capital, diverse industries, and leading tech companies, including Amazon’s HQ2.
Parviz Ghandforoush, associate dean for graduate programs, attributed the continued strong ranking to students who are highly academically qualified and professionally accomplished, faculty who are deeply engaged in teaching and research, and program staff who have created a positive learning community.
“Our ranking owes much to our high peer assessment score, which we attribute to Pamplin’s enhanced research performance and the program’s curriculum,” said Ghandforoush. “Additionally, our Online MBA program also benefits from the strong rankings, as the program maintains academic parity with the part-time Evening MBA program, featuring numerous shared courses and faculty members.”
