Virginia Tech’s Admissions Squared initiative fast tracks Master of Engineering degrees
The Admissions Squared initiative provides Virginia Tech undergraduates an opportunity to immediately begin their master’s upon completion of their bachelor’s degrees.
Virginia Tech is creating a pathway for high-achieving undergraduate students to fast track their Master of Engineering in Computer Science or Computer Engineering through the Admissions Squared (A²) program.
“Virginia Tech’s Admissions Squared program offers a seamless transition for high-achieving undergraduates to accelerate their path into the graduate level learning environment for engineering,” said Juan Espinoza, interim vice provost for enrollment management at Virginia Tech. “This initiative reflects the university’s dedication to fostering a robust pipeline for future tech leaders by streamlining the educational trajectory for its distinguished students.”
More than 430 undergraduate students comprise the first A² cohort. Their acceptance into the program was honored during an evening ceremony on April 2 in Blacksburg. The students and their guests networked with fellow A² students and received their first introduction to the Virginia Tech Innovation Campus community.
This initiative is a part of the Tech Talent Investment Program, a state-wide effort to accelerate workforce development in technology and expedite the admissions process into Master of Engineering programs. To participate, students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher and meet pre-requisite course requirements upon completion of their bachelor’s degree. Students must then complete the master’s degree program within two to three semesters. These students can begin their master’s programs at either the Blacksburg Campus or the Innovation Campus in Alexandria once these requirements are fulfilled.
“The A² program presents an exceptional opportunity for first year and transfer students to embrace their journey towards a career in computer science or computer engineering, encouraging them to envision achievements beyond their undergraduate studies,” said Patricia “Patty” Cardenas, director of admissions at the Virginia Tech Innovation Campus.
The Virginia Tech Master of Engineering program is a professional, industry-connected degree that provides students with a deep technical base while expanding their professional skills and preparing them to assume leadership roles in the industry.
