Anne Deegan, a graduating senior in the cybersecurity management and analytics program, also known as BIT-Cyber, has been selected as the recipient of the 2024 Phi Kappa Phi Medallion for the Pamplin College of Business.

Each year, one student is selected from each college at Virginia Tech to receive the award, which honors students for their academic excellence. Deegan was chosen to represent Pamplin due to her impressive 4.0 grade point average, which she has maintained throughout her time as a BIT-Cyber major.

“I worked very hard and was also able to find a balance between academic and personal growth,” said Deegan. “While I faced many challenges and some setbacks throughout college, I think that this balanced perspective kept me resilient and focused on my goals.”

Deegan stated that she found the balance between academics and personal growth through her sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma, as well as through campus jobs, including serving as a student worker at Newman Library and as an orientation leader during Orientation Day in the summer of 2022.

This past summer, she also gained valuable workplace experience through an internship with ExxonMobil’s IT department in Houston, Texas. The role helped Deegan secure a post-graduate full-time position at Deloitte in Arlington, Virginia, as a business technology solutions analyst.

“Anne represents the BIT Department and the cybersecurity management and analytics major in a positive way through her hard work and determination,” said Quinton Nottingham, department head for the Business Information Technology, home to the BIT-Cyber program. “We are fortunate to have Anne as a CMA major and wish her success in her new role at Deloitte.”

Deegan credits her professors in Pamplin College of Business and the BIT Department as well as her academic advisor, Justin Grady, for her success.

“All my professors have always been so willing to help and answer questions,” said Deegan. “Pamplin and the BIT department are dedicated to their students’ success and wellbeing. I have always been able to find help when I need it – and this help has always been so enthusiastic and encouraging.”
