The Office for Inclusion and Diversity has a new director for the Student Opportunities and Achievement Resources (SOAR) program.

Ashley Offutt was promoted to director effective March 10. She had been serving as interim director of the program since Sept. 1, 2023.

Ellington Graves, interim senior associate vice provost for diversity and inclusion, said Offutt is the perfect fit for the role.

“Ashley has quickly earned the confidence of her team and SOAR's partners across the university,” Graves said. “I know she will continue to do great things for our students as the director of this program. She is the advocate and leader that SOAR needs.”

Four of Offutt’s teammates also were recently promoted:

  • Mikaela David-John is now a SOAR associate director
  • Seth Sterlin is now a SOAR associate director
  • Casey Polk is now a SOAR assistant director
  • Brandon Stokes has been brought on full-time as a program manager

“I am fortunate to have an incredible team in SOAR. I am proud of what we have accomplished together, and this is a team that I cherish.” Offutt said. “I am thankful for the opportunity to continue growing the program. Sharing the impact of bridging of culture and curriculum is my passion, and I know that with this team, we can continue to multiply the efforts of serving students as they discover and thrive at Virginia Tech.”
