Andrea Green

Graduate Coordinator for the Biomedical and Veterinary Science Graduate Program

When did you join the veterinary college?

February 2019 but I've worked at Virginia Tech since 2015.

What is your role at the veterinary college?

Graduate Coordinator for the Biomedical and Veterinary Science Graduate Program.

The best part of being at VMCVM...

There are some really great people that work at VMCVM.

Best advice I've gotten...

Everything is fixable. And so far, I have found that to be true.

How would you capture the essence of your work in a newspaper headline?

Chaos Coordinator, paperwork wrangler, problem solver, stipend and tuition provider.

My hidden talent...

#twinmom and boys at that! But I am not sure how hidden it is. 🤷‍♀️

Can you share a memorable experience or story from your time working with animals?

I don't work with animals but I do remember my first day I got to see puppies in the hall. Puppies always make things better.

What do you find most inspiring or fulfilling about working with students and helping them pursue their careers?

It's always fun to see them grow and then see where they end up. Our students move on to some pretty awesome places after they graduate. Their projects are also all so different and half the time I have no idea what they are talking about but they make it sound so cool.

If I had a superpower, it would be...

An extra set of hands. Not sure if that is a superpower but most days I could 100% use them!

Favorite way to end the day...

Wine

Top of my bucket list...

Travel! I have a list of places I want to go!

How many pets/animals live at home? Can you tell us about them?

3 cats. Lilly is the OG and I have had her since I moved out on my own after college. Oreo came second after my husband started working at VT. A coworker had a cat have kitten under his desk and Oreo was the only one that didn't have a home. Then Jackie joined us when we moved from our apartment to our house. We couldn't leave her at the apartment because it was obvious she was living outside on her own.
