Annually, Hokie Nation comes together for a 24-hour period of camaraderie and rivalry, all in the name of supporting their favorite Virginia Tech departments, programs, student organizations, clubs, and teams. Giving Day 2024 presents a special chance for the Virginia Tech community to express their Hokie Spirit, channeling their generosity to make a positive impact on both the university's students and the wider global community.

This year, beginning at noon EST on Wednesday, Feb. 21, until noon EST on Thursday, Feb. 22, Pamplin College of Business alumni, friends, faculty and staff, students, and other dedicated supporters will work to help the college keep its spot at the top of Virginia Tech’s Giving Day Leaderboard for a fourth straight year. Pamplin led all Virginia Tech colleges and units on Giving Day 2023, raising over $2.5 million with the help of 2,683 unique donors.

The college's goal for Giving Day 2024 is 2,750 unique donors and every gift of at least $5 to one of 38 different fund areas on the Pamplin Giving Day designations list will support the college in reaching this goal.

Maximize your impact as an ambassador

Much of Pamplin’s success on Giving Day can be traced to Giving Day ambassadors and the You+2 campaign. Giving Day ambassadors make their gifts using a unique ambassador link and encourage two other Hokies to make a gift through the same ambassador link on Giving Day to earn special swag. Ambassadors are provided with a Giving Day toolkit – complete with sample social media posts and images, customizable email templates, answers to frequently asked questions, and more – which will help spread the word about Giving Day.

Please visit Pamplin's Giving Day page to become an ambassador. Please make sure to select Pamplin as your affiliation.

Pamplin Giving Day challenges and bonuses

Giving Day is all about participation and building community through philanthropic engagement. In this spirit, different Giving Day challenge goals are directly tied to the number of unique donors to Pamplin. Donors may give to more than one area of Pamplin, but they will be credited only once as a unique donor.

Whether a donor chooses to give to the college’s annual fund, a department or program, Pamplin's Office for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB), the Global Business and Analytics Complex, or a student organization, every gift will help Pamplin prepare the next generation of business leaders.

Special giving challenges, unique to Giving Day, can aggregate and amplify all gifts made to Pamplin. These challenges are made possible thanks to the generous donations of fellow Pamplin supporters.

Pamplin Virginia Tech Advantage Challenge

Did you know that Virginia Tech is only able to help meet 54 percent of students’ overall financial need to attend? This year, your gift on Giving Day will help unlock scholarship support for talented and resolute Pamplin students.

Aligned with the Virginia Tech Advantage, supporters of the Pamplin College of Business have the opportunity to alleviate this financial strain by contributing to any Pamplin fund area via the Giving Day platform, thereby unlocking additional support for Pamplin scholarships. With every 275 unique donors, an additional $10,000 will be released to bolster Pamplin scholarship aid, up to $100,000.

The Pamplin Virginia Tech Advantage Challenge is facilitated by the generous support of Michael Clarke ’83, who believes strongly that a Pamplin education should be affordable and accessible to any student talented and diligent enough to pursue a Pamplin College of Business degree.

Pamplin Leaderboard Challenge

All Pamplin departments, programs, and initiatives will win a share of Pamplin Leaderboard challenge funds with potential opportunities for additional bonus funds to be unlocked as the college reaches specific donor milestones throughout Giving Day.

The top 10 units with the most donors to their area will be awarded a share of $100,000, with first place receiving $20,000, with the remaining funds to be distributed on a sliding scale based on leaderboard ranking, down to 10th place receiving $2,000.

Following Giving Day, Pamplin will award special bonuses to units #11-38 on the Leaderboard:

  • When Pamplin reaches 2,683 total donors (Giving Day 2023 unique donors), an additional $500 will be unlocked for units #11-38 on the leaderboard.
  • When Pamplin reaches its goal of 2,750 unique donors, an additional $500 will be unlocked for all units #11-38 on the leaderboard for a total of $1,000 for each #11-38 unit.

The three Ambassadors who generate the highest number of unique donors via their direct ambassador link will receive special funds from the Pamplin Leaderboard to be directed to the Pamplin fund of their choosing.

The three Pamplin Ambassador CHAMPIONS will receive the following awards for their selected funds:

Pamplin Ambassador Sign-up Challenge

Five randomly selected Pamplin Ambassadors who sign up and select Pamplin as their preferred page will each receive a $1,000 bonus to contribute to the Pamplin fund of their choice.

Virginia Tech will also hold various challenges throughout Giving Day. Any university challenges won by Pamplin will be shared with all participating units.

Pamplin’s Giving Day headquarters

This year, in collaboration with PRISM, the faculty-led, student-run next-generation marketing firm within Pamplin, volunteers will be organizing in-person Giving Day headquarters at two distinct locations, the Pamplin Atrium and, for the first time, the commons area of the recently opened Data and Decision Sciences Building.

Both locations will “open” at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 21, offering Giving Day giveaways and swag, along with food and games. All members of the Pamplin community are encouraged to drop by.
