Myriam Lechuga, a former administrative assistant and graduate coordinator for the urban affairs and planning and government and international affairs programs at Virginia Tech, passed away on Jan. 10.

Lechuga was born on Oct. 10, 1955, in Havana, Cuba, to Gladys Rosario Lauderman and Carlos Lechuga. 

She was a beloved member of the Virginia Tech community, and she was recognized as an extraordinary employee for her work with graduate students in Northern Virginia.

Lechuga graduated from George Washington University with a degree in international affairs and received a master’s degree in arts management at American University. 

She loved theatre and the arts and enjoyed giving film and television recommendations to her friends and family. She volunteered to give guided tours as a Smithsonian Castle docent and as an information specialist.

Lechuga is preceded in death by mother, Gladys Lauderman, and her grandmother, Mercedes Ortiz Lauderman.
