Procedure for Burruss Hall lighting
Every night, Burruss Hall is illuminated in white light to enhance personal safety and security for those near the building and to provide a sense of place, orientation, and wayfinding to community members on campus after dark.
Moving forward, on specific occasions, Burruss will be illuminated in either orange and maroon light or red, white, and blue light to acknowledge special university events or national recognitions. Those occasions include:
Orange and Maroon
- The first day of fall (August) and spring (January) semester (one night)
- Homecoming Weekend (fall semester) (three nights)
- Ring Premiere (fall semester) (three nights)
- Fall (December) and spring (May) commencement (three nights)
- Alumni Weekend (June) (three nights)
- Giving Day (spring) (one night)
- University-level celebratory events (duration to be determined)
Red and Blue (and White)
- Memorial Day (May) (one night)
- Independence Day (July 4) (one night)
- Veterans Day (Nov.) (one night)
Specific, one-time federal and state recognitions initiated by the president of the United States or governor of Virginia (duration to be determined).
