First-year Cadets Nathan Jones, Kaley Schlipp, and Jack Tincher will receive the flags at Saturday’s football game against North Carolina State.

The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets and the Virginia Tech football team continue their proud partnership to highlight the colors during the pre-game ceremony at every football game.

Three football players, chosen because of their performance in the last game or at practice, carry the American flag, the state flag, and the team’s spirit flag and lead the team onto the field. They deliver the flags to cadets at the south end of the field.

The cadets, also selected based on their performance in the corps, render honor to the flags and carry them off the field. At home games, three first-year cadets are selected, and one or two upper-class cadets travel with the team and receive the flags at away games.

Jones is in Air Force ROTC and majoring in general engineering in the College of Engineering. Always displaying a positive attitude, he takes time to encourage his fellow cadets. He embraces any task with energy and enthusiasm, making him a strong member of his peer group.

Schlipp is in Army ROTC and majoring in criminology in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences. She was chosen for her performance as a first-year cadet. She is a constant positive contributor to her company and works hard to achieve success in her academic and cadet endeavors.

Tincher is in Army ROTC and majoring in general engineering in the College of Engineering. A natural leader amongst his fellow first-year cadets through his military experience, he leverages his background to help his peers succeed.

All three are members of the Highty-Tighties, the corps’ regimental band.
