Corps of Cadets alumni Lt. Cmdr. Mark Horst, Maj. Mike Lowery named Pittsburgh game Hokie Heroes
U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Mark Horst and U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Mike Lowery were selected as the Hokie Heroes for Saturday's football game against Pittsburgh.
The Hokie Hero program honors corps alumni who are deployed. Recipients are highlighted by Bill Roth and Mike Burnop during their radio broadcast of Hokie football games, on the Corps of Cadets website, and in the Corps Review alumni magazine.
Horst graduated from the Corps of Cadets in 2011 and earned his degree in mining engineering from the College of Engineering in 2012. While in the corps, Horst was a member of the regimental band, the Highty-Tighties.
A 2012 corps graduate, Lowery earned his degree in mathematics from the College of Science in 2013. As a cadet, Lowery was a member of Foxtrot Company.
Both are deployed as part of the Bataan Amphibious Readiness Group and 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit. They are operating in the 5th Fleet area to help ensure maritime security and stability in the Middle East.
