First-year Cadets Ethan MacKay, Ryan Tatman, and Trevor Rovey will receive the flags at Saturday’s Homecoming football game against Wake Forest.

The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets and the Virginia Tech football team continue their proud partnership to highlight the colors during the pre-game ceremony at every football game.

Three football players, chosen because of their performance in the last game or at practice, carry the American flag, the state flag, and the team’s spirit flag and lead the team onto the field. They deliver the flags to cadets at the south end of the field.

The cadets, also selected based on their performance in the corps, render honor to the flags and carry them off the field. At home games, three first-year cadets are selected, and one or two upper-class cadets travel with the team and receive the flags at away games.

MacKay is in Naval ROTC and majoring in national security and foreign affairs in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences. A member of Bravo Company, he is known for motivating his classmates and himself. MacKay has demonstrated dedication to his academics and an ever-present willingness to help those around him.

Tatman is in Army ROTC and majoring in architecture in the College of Architecture, Arts, and Design. He was chosen for being a goal-oriented cadet who takes the initiative to help others and better himself. A member of Charlie Company, his actions have demonstrated his embodiment of Virginia Tech’s motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve).

Rovey, a member of Delta Company and Navy ROTC, is majoring in general engineering in the College of Engineering. Always seeking to lift up those around him, he sets the example amongst first-year cadets. Rovey takes advantage of volunteer opportunities and is known for his “all in” attitude.
