Members of the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine’s Class of 2027 officially began their medical education journeys with orientation during the last week of July. The 51 matriculating students were chosen from 6,184 applicants, an acceptance rate of less than 1 percent, as the school remained one of the most selective in the country.

“We are proud to welcome our newest class of students to the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and the Roanoke region. These students’ academic achievements, life experiences, and interpersonal abilities fit perfectly with our mission of developing future physician thought leaders, and we know they will make a positive impact upon our community and the profession,” said Lee Learman, dean of the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. “I can’t wait to personally get to know these outstanding students as they begin their paths toward becoming physicians. We were able to matriculate 51 rather than 49 because several senior students are pausing their M.D. studies to pursue Ph.D.s.”

Recruitment for the Class of 2028 has begun with the first round of interviews to be held in-person in August. Prospective students can learn more about the medical school's admissions and the application process on the school’s website.
