Ling Li named Jones Faculty Fellow in Mechanical Engineering
Ling Li, assistant professor of mechanical engineering in the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech, has been named the Jones Faculty Fellow in Mechanical Engineering by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.
Established in 2019, this named position was established to acknowledge and reward early-career faculty who have shown exceptional promise in research, teaching, or outreach.
A member of the Virginia Tech faculty since 2017, Li conducts research on biological and bio-inspired materials, structural materials, and biomineralization. Since joining Virginia Tech, Li has received more than $2.6 million in research funding. His research has been published in leading journals including Science, PNAS, Nature Materials, Nature Communications, and Advanced Materials.
Li’s scholarship has been recognized by several prestigious awards, including the Rosalind Franklin Young Investigator Award, the Air Force Office of Scientific Research Young Investigator Award, the National Science Foundation CAREER Award, TR35 China Award, and the 3M Non-Tenure Faculty Award.
Li has been invited to give research seminars at other leading research universities and at top international research conferences such as the Materials Research Society annual meeting, American Chemical Society annual meeting, and the Minerals, Metals and Materials Society annual meeting.
Li earned a bachelor’s degree from the National University of Singapore and a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
