Virginia Tech Rescue Squad announces new officers for 2022-23 academic year
The all-student run Virginia Tech Rescue Squad elects new officers each academic year to lead its 35 members and help advance the campus community’s safety.
The squad held a virtual swearing-in ceremony in early April honor and recognize the new leaders.
Responding to around 1,200 emergency calls on the Blacksburg campus in a typical year, the Virginia Tech Rescue Squad performs the same functions of a municipal rescue squad. Its members also provide emergency medical services at major university and athletic events, manage the AED program on the Blacksburg campus, and offer ongoing health and safety-related trainings — such as Stop the Bleed — for the university community.
The new officers for the 2022-23 academic year are:
- Connor Duda, chief, rising senior majoring in biological sciences, College of Science.
- Bella Filippone, administrative captain, rising junior majoring in human nutrition, foods, and exercise, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
- Matt McLaughlin, operations captain, rising senior majoring in electrical engineering, College of Engineering.
- Colin Carnley, personnel lieutenant, rising junior majoring in public health and neuroscience, Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine and College of Science.
- Jessica Sova, training lieutenant, rising junior majoring in biological sciences, College of Science.
- Ana Montoya, public outreach lieutenant, rising senior majoring in experimental neuroscience, College of Science.
- Lydia Kuo, equipment lieutenant, rising senior majoring in human nutrition, foods, and exercise, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
- Nathan Duda, vehicles lieutenant, rising senior majoring in environmental science, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
- Jake Weirer, communications lieutenant, rising sophomore majoring in aerospace and ocean engineering, College of Engineering.
- Josh Brown, special operations officer, rising junior majoring in public health, Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine.
- Alice Rosales, member at large, rising junior majoring in criminology, College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences.
- Sheharyar Khan, membership chair, rising senior majoring in psychology, College of Science.
- Tim Wojcik, parliamentarian, rising junior majoring in aerospace engineering, College of Engineering.
