Virginia Tech political science expert Karen Hult highlights a few takeaways from this week’s Republican primaries:
- Incumbent governors continue to win
- Former President Trump's endorsement — or opposition — continues to have mixed effects (e.g. Kemp and Raffensberger win in Georgia, Mo Brooks in Alabama makes it at least to a runoff in the Senate race, Huckabee Sanders wins primary in Arkansas, Paxton wins in Texas Attorney General race against G.P. Bush)
- Record high GOP turnout in Georgia highlights Republican enthusiasm, and may signal difficulties for Democratic gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams (despite record turnout among Democrats in largely uncontested race) and for Democrats generally moving to the fall
