In memoriam: Alex Buchanan
Editor's note: The following was provided by the Buchanan family
Alexander Wright Buchanan passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022, in Blacksburg.
Alex was a senior in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and majored in Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise. He was a member of Juxtaposition, an a capella group on campus.
Alex was born Jan. 17, 2000, in Richmond, Virginia, the first child of Scott and Kristina Buchanan. Alex loved a variety of genres of music, played a variety of instruments and would sing anywhere he could. He enjoyed power lifting and wanted to share his knowledge by personal training and coaching people while pursuing degrees in wellness and physical therapy. Spending time with his best friend and brother Bryan was the highlight of his life. He was a truly wonderful person, who made a positive impact on everyone that had the pleasure to meet him. A shining example of love, with a pure heart and the most contagious smile you will ever find.
Alex is survived by his parents, Scott and Kristina Buchanan and brother, Bryan Buchanan; his Grandparents Roberta (Bobbie) Palsa and Larry and Lois Buchanan; his Uncle Bill and Aunt Debbie Palsa and cousin Nicole Palsa; his Aunt Susan McAulay-Kidd and cousins Angela Roberts, Jessica Bates, James McAulay, Amanda McAulay and Joseph Kidd; and his Aunts Barbara Jo and Elisabeth Palsa; and Aunt Amy and Uncle Shane Huskey and cousins Shannon and Jake Huskey; his girlfriend of four years, Savannah Hoover and close friend Emily McLean.
If you are so inclined, please direct contributions in Alex’s memory to his former a capella group Juxtaposition, 218 Uptown Trail, Blacksburg, Virginia, 24060. They also accept through PayPal and Venmo (VTJUXTA).
A celebration of life service for Alex will be held Saturday, March 12, at 3 p.m. at Woodlake United Methodist Church, 15640 Hampton Park Drive, Chesterfield, Virginia 23832.
Please come as you are. Alex did not like dressing up and would rather have his family and friends be comfortable and “be you” when everyone is together enjoying each other’s company.
