Donald "Don" Clark, a retired Division of Campus Planning, Infrastructure, and Facilities and Student Affairs employee, passed away on March 7.

Clark was a friend to everyone he met. He enjoyed helping and encouraging others.

He was born on Sept. 6, 1950.

From the 1970s through 2003, he served as a mason/plasterer for Virginia Tech's Division of Campus Planning, Infrastructure, and Facilities. He then joined Student Affairs as a paint supervisor until his retirement from the university in 2009. He later served at New River Community College.

Clark strove to excel at life and to be the best he could be. He exercised every day, ate well, had an exemplary work ethic, and was never late for work. He was a devoted Christian and was faithful in starting each day with a morning prayer.

Clark appreciated nature and loved to travel with his wife of 53 years, Barbara. Over his lifetime, they explored the world together — including Alaska and Germany, some of his favorites.

He is preceded in death by his father, Randall Carson Clark; mother, Harriet Conley Clark; and nephew, Jarrod Clark.  

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Sarah Aardema; grandson, Tripp Aardema; brother, Larry "Buck" Clark, and wife, Judy; brother, Randy Clark, and wife, Anita; brother-in-law, Gary Blevins, and wife, Susan; brother-in-law, Greg Blevins; a niece and two nephews; an aunt; and many cousins.

He will be missed by all, including his grandson's German shepherd, Diesel, and the family cat, Boo-Boo. 

There will be a memorial service at the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel in Pembroke, Virginia, on Sunday, March 13. Visitation will be at 2 p.m. with the service at 3 p.m.
