American Physical Society names Uwe Täuber as lead editor for journal Physical Review E

The American Physical Society (APS) has selected Uwe Täuber, a professor in the Department of Physics and director of the Virginia Tech Center for Soft Matter and Biological Physics, as the new lead editor of the journal Physical Review E.
The appointment was announced in an APS press release. Täuber began the position Jan. 1. The journal covers statistical, nonlinear, biological, and soft matter physics
“I am looking forward to working with Uwe in his new role as lead editor of Physical Review E. His broad background and experience will be invaluable in guiding the journal in the future,” said APS Editor-in-Chief Michael Thoennessen in the release. “Uwe replaces Eli Ben-Naim, who has served expertly in this role for more than eight years, and I would like to thank him for his great commitment and dedication to the journal.”
Elected as an APS Fellow in 2014, Täuber earned his Ph.D. from the Technical University of Munich in 1992 and subsequently worked as a post-doctoral researcher at Harvard University and Oxford University. He joined Virginia Tech in December 1998 and was elected director of the Center for Soft Matter and Biological Physics in 2016.
“I am honored and thrilled to assume the position of lead editor for Physical Review E during a time when scientific publishing is experiencing tremendous and challenging changes, with more unexpected developments likely in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Täuber said in the release. “Physical Review E is a truly interdisciplinary journal whose profile extends well beyond the traditional physics realm to a broad research community in science and engineering.”
