Winter Welcome Week launches spring semester for new and returning students
Virginia Tech will kick off the Spring semester with Winter Welcome Week, the premier spring transitional program, starting on Jan. 18. Various events across campus and online have been created or coordinated by New Student and Family Programs (NSFP) tailored specifically to new and returning students looking to have fun and create community with their peers. The week also serves as a transition into university life and a hub for students to find their place at Virginia Tech.
Like welcome weeks in the past, this year’s itinerary spans longer than just a week, allowing students ample time and plenty of opportunities to find what piques their interests. Events will last through February, with plenty of virtual and in-person fun for everyone.
“Students don’t always find their home in their first semester of school,” said Chad Zoller, Assistant Director of Transition for NSFP. “Welcome Week is meant to allow students opportunities to find their friends and their place within the Virginia Tech community, whether virtually or on campus. It serves to welcome new spring admits and continue the transition experience for continuing first year and transfer students!"
There will be several virtual events for students to join anywhere, including a free week of virtual fitness hosted by Rec Sports, an online magic and mind-reading session, and a Welcome Week Concert that you can stream right to your laptop, brought to you by the collaborative efforts of the Black Student Alliance and the Virginia Tech Union.
You can also find informational sessions with topics like budgeting, mindfulness, and resiliency to prepare for your semester!
Want to get out and explore campus? There will be several physically-distanced events around campus, in dining halls, on the Drillfield, and quads. Make sure to check out the grand opening of the brand new Venture Out Center.
