Activity ideas over Thanksgiving break

The Thanksgiving holiday break runs from Nov. 21 until courses resume via online instruction on Nov. 30. While enjoying the break, here are a few ideas for downtime:

To help remind students of just how much fun and engagement is to be had, Virginia Tech Students recently launched the Hokies Can Do campaign.
Hokie Wellness also provided some ideas of how to use any free time in a productive manner.
Sleep
Sleep is just as essential as nutrition and exercise when it comes to well-being and should not need to be earned. It may feel a bit over-indulgent, but break is the perfect time for students to catch up on sleep debt in the midst of a busy semester.
Set new goals
Take some time to think about goals you’d like to achieved and explore the many virtual resources Virginia Tech has to help you get there. Here are a few:

- Start exercising with Recreational Sports
- Quit Nicotine with Hokie Wellness
- Confront a long-term issue with Cook Counseling Center
- Change eating habits with the Schiffert Health Center Dietitian
- Get better grades with the Student Success Center
- Job search or sharpen your resume with Career and Professional Development
Be intentional about fun
While we are still in the world of physical distancing, it is more important than ever to connect with those you care about and to have intentional fun together. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Go on a hike
- Cook family meals
- Have a virtual trivia night with distant friends or relatives
- Run/walk a holiday 5K
- Volunteer
- Try a new hobby together
- Start a family book club
