Ira “Dallas” J. Long III, 28, of Chester, Virginia departed this life March 16, 2019.

Surviving are his parents, Ira J. Long Jr. and Alycia Long; sister, Nia Long; nephew, Titus Long-Thomas; grandmother, Thomasine Long; Aunt, Bernee Long; three uncles; Henry Fergerson, Thurston Long, and Gregory Long (Katina); a host of great uncles, aunts, cousins, and loved ones.

Private memorial services for friends and family were held on March 23 with Pastor Glenn Mason officiating. 

Ira was seeking both a bachelor's degree and a master of arts degree in political science at Virginia Tech. He began taking classes in the first summer session in 2016, transferring course work from John Tyler Community College and Norfolk State University. As an undergraduate political science student, he spent a semester studying abroad at Riva San Vitale in Switzerland and a semester in the Washington semester program in global engagement.
