Erica Feuerbacher named assistant professor of animal and poultry sciences
Feuerbacher earned her doctorate in psychology from the University of Florida.
Erica Feuerbacher, assistant professor of animal and poultry science, is one of a number of new faculty members recently hired in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences this academic year.
New positions were identified to bring talent to the college's focus areas, including food, health, the environment, and community viability. The new faculty members are distributed across teaching, research, and Extension.
Feuerbacher engages in teaching, Extension, and research in the field of companion animal behavior and welfare. She teaches courses that focus on applied animal behavior and welfare and engages in Extension work by helping shelters improve their behavioral programs as well as educating the public about humane, scientific training techniques.
Her current research interests focus on shelter dog welfare and interventions that can improve their welfare and increase adoptions. She also studies human-animal interactions, including dogs’ preferences for different social interactions and how to use positive reinforcement training most effectively in training dogs.
She received her bachelor’s degrees in Spanish and biology from Arizona State University, her master’s degree in behavior analysis from the University of North Texas, and her doctorate in psychology from the University of Florida.
