Countdown to graduation: The basics about 2015 fall commencement ceremonies
BLACKSBURG — Virginia Tech will host fall commencement exercises on Friday, Dec. 18, in Cassell Coliseum.
Tom Tillar, vice president for alumni relations for 20 years before announcing plans to step down this fall, and Karen Roberto, a University Distinguished Professor and leader in the field of social gerontology, will deliver the keynote addresses. Tillar will speak to undergraduate students at the University Ceremony, which begins with a procession at 10:30 a.m., and Roberto will speak at the Graduate School Ceremony which begins with a procession at 2:30 p.m.
Approximately 2,400 students will be honored for completing their academic degrees at the end of the summer and fall terms at the two events.

This fall, 287 graduating seniors will complete their baccalaureate degree programs with honors, having achieved an accumulative grade point average of at least a 3.4 on a 4.0 scale.
The most popular major among graduating seniors is biology. The next four most popular majors: business information technology; computer science; finance; and psychology.

Approximately 1,100 students will be honored at Graduate School Commencement – 701 master’s degree candidates, 9 education specialist degree candidates, 15 Ed.D. candidates, 98 advanced graduate certificate candidates, and 286 Ph.D. candidates.
