Dining Services and Sigma Alpha Epsilon break donation records for Flex Out Hunger
Virginia Tech Dining Services, along with the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, hosted the annual Flex Out Hunger program, which offers students the opportunity to donate some or all of the remaining balance of their dining plans at the end of the spring semester to those in need in the community.
Members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon presented a check for a record-breaking $24,164.75 to Melissa Poindexter of Montgomery County Emergency Assistance. This year, 791 students participated in Flex Out Hunger, which began in the fall of 2000.
“SAE takes great pride in representing Virginia Tech’s motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve), by hosting Flex Out Hunger each year,” said Sam Eaddy of Herndon, Virginia, a senior majoring in biological sciences in the College of Science, and a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. “We were particularly excited about this year’s total as it has far surpassed all others in the past and is well above our yearly average of around $15,000.”
Eaddy said that this year’s donation will provide 75 to 100 pounds of food for more than 5,000 families in Montgomery County.
