Besnik Pula has been appointed an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science at Virginia Tech’s College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences.

Pula is one of 27 new tenure-track faculty members at the college this fall. The new hires are part of the college’s ongoing efforts to attract renowned scholars to strengthen and expand its teaching, research, and engagement programs. The college has added more than 100 full-time permanent faculty members in the past four years.

Pula’s scholarship focuses on socialism and post-socialist transformations in Eastern Europe, the political economy of European integration, and southeastern European state formation in comparative historical perspective. He will teach comparative political economy and politics of post-Communist systems.

Pula has been published in scholarly journals, including Political Power and Social Theory, and Theory and Society; and has contributed chapters to several books.

He received his bachelor's degree from Hunter College of the City University of New York, a master's degree from Georgetown University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.
