Employees give back to the community through annual Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign
The following is an open letter to the Virginia Tech community from Robert T. Sumichrast, dean of the Pamplin College of Business and honorary chair of the university’s 2014 Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign.
Dear colleagues,
Food for hungry individuals and families, loving homes for abandoned animals, affordable health care for the uninsured, emergency services for anyone in need. These are just a few of the needs, in our community and beyond, that were met with the help of your contributions to last year’s Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign.
Thanks to your generosity, Virginia Tech raised a record-breaking $311,215 last year, exceeding its $300,000 goal. Your big hearts made a world of difference to the lives of many thousands of children and adults.
I’m honored to serve as honorary chair of this year’s campaign. I deeply believe each one of us has a responsibility to give back to the communities in which we live and work and to the wider community to which we all belong.
Please join me in supporting this year’s campaign. You can choose from more than 1,000 charities — local, state, national, and international organizations — including those that help abused women and children, protect our natural resources and environment, build homes for the disadvantaged, aid military veterans, or reach out to refugees.
If you’re a salaried employee, you can quickly and securely donate via payroll deduction through the online CVC Pledge System.
If each of our 7,400 full-time employees donates just $2 per paycheck, we will easily exceed our goal this year of raising $325,000 — so even a small gift can lead to a significant contribution to the lives of others.
Our campaign will go on through December 12. Please consider making your gift today.
