Virginia Tech ranked in top 10 universities to work for in 2014

People walking on the drillfield in the fall. — In recent years, several national rankings have noted the high quality of life at Virginia Tech and Blacksburg.

Virginia Tech has been ranked No. 9 on a list of "The Top 25 Universities To Work For in 2014," by Glassdoor.com.

The ranking is based on employee feedback entered on Glassdoor.com and includes institutions that received at least 50 reviews between Sept. 1, 2013 and Aug. 31, 2014.

Each entry is evaluated on a five point scale. Employees at universities that scored the highest noted benefits such as flexible schedules, tuition reimbursement, an atmosphere of ongoing education, and opportunities to make an impact on young lives.

The ranking is among the many the town and Virginia Tech have received in recent years that speak to the quality of life in Blacksburg which strengthens the university's ability to recruit and retain high caliber faculty and staff. Virginia Tech is a family-friendly employer, enhancing the work-life experience of its employees through the Hokie Wellness program, which provides programming and information to boost employee health, well-being, and productivity.

In 2014, the national real estate blog Movoto.com ranked the Town of Blacksburg No. 4 on a list of the "10 Happiest Small Places in America."
For the fifth consecutive year, Virginia Tech received a gold award for its commuter program from the Best Workplaces for Commuters in 2014.
In 2013, Virginia Tech landed the top spot in The Active Times list of the "50 Fittest Colleges in America."
In 2012, the popular real estate website homes.com ranked Blacksburg No. 1 on its “Top 10 Cities to Raise a Family” listing, citing Virginia Tech and numerous economic opportunities as reasons for the top designation.
In 2012, Bloomberg's Businessweek ranked Blacksburg the “Best Place in the U.S. to Raise Kids"
In 2012, Forbes.com named the “Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford” area one of the best small cities to find employment based on statistical data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
