Corps of Cadets and ROTC units to hold joint graduation and commissioning ceremony May 16
On Friday, May 16, the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets and the Virginia Tech ROTC units will hold the joint graduation and commissioning ceremony to recognize the hard work and achievement of the senior class.
One hundred ninety-nine cadets will earn their graduation certificates from the Corps of Cadets while 106 will commission into the four armed services.
The U.S. Army will gain 53 new officers, while 26 will enter the U.S. Air Force, 18 will join the U.S. Navy, and the U.S. Marine Corps will welcome nine new lieutenants.
The ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. in the Burruss Hall auditorium located at 800 Drillfield Dr.
The Virginia Tech Class of 2014 is proud to welcome retired U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Kevin Quinn who will serve as the graduation speaker and commissioning officer.
Quinn assumed command of the Naval Surface Force Atlantic in February 2008, responsible for 27,000 sailors and 82 surface warships in the Atlantic Fleet. Prior to his retirement he served as the chief readiness officer of the Surface Warfare Enterprise, responsible for the overall readiness of every surface ship in the U.S. Navy. He currently serves as corporate vice president of Strategic Insight Ltd.
The Highty-Tighties, the regimental band, will perform at the ceremony. The Highty-Tighties, the graduates, and commissionees will conclude the event with the playing and singing of the individual service songs and “Tech Triumph.”
