Progeny Film Festival returns for 11th season
The 11th annual Progeny Film Festival returns to the Lyric Theatre on Saturday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. for an evening of new screenings by local student filmmakers.
This long running tradition has entertained cinema lovers in the New River Valley since 2003, and has featured student works from across southwest Virginia. Progeny is one of the few student only festivals in the region.
Last year's festival featured a record-breaking 17 short films. These films offer unique perspectives and original stories not found in mainstream cinema. The festival encourages budding filmmakers to expose their work to the public eye, and in return rewards them with constructive criticism and the chance to win monetary prizes.
Progeny alumni screen the submissions, and winners, chosen by faculty judges, are announced that evening. Award categories include best picture, audience award, judge’s award, best performance, best cinematography, and best editing.
Progeny is free and open to the public. Doors open at 7 p.m.
The festival is sponsored by the Virginia Tech School of Performing Arts and the student-led Association of Movie Productions.
