Virginia Tech employees give back to the community with $311,215 in donations to charities
For the fifth consecutive year, Virginia Tech employees have risen to the challenge and displayed their commitment and support to the community through their extraordinary ability to give to those in need.
More than 1,529 employees (about 21 percent) donated to the 2013 Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign, raising a total of $ $311,215, exceeding the $300,000 goal.
Employees made individual gifts and came together in departments and offices across the university to host fundraisers and activities to raise funds for the campaign as well.
Just more than $26,000 of the donations were donated to the general campaign, while employees donated $21,434 for the Free Clinic of the New River Valley and 66 employees donated $19,299 to the United Way of Montgomery, Radford, and Floyd. The Women’s Resource Center of the New River Valley received the third highest level of donations - $17,087 from 112 employees.
Administered by the university’s Department of Human Resources, the Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign is a workplace-giving program that allows state employees to designate a financial gift to any of more than 1,000 participating charities. Types of charities include health and human services, animal welfare, environmental conservation, and medical research.
In the last five years, Virginia Tech employees have donated a combined total of more than $1.3 million.
