Jennifer Sano-Franchini has been appointed an assistant professor in the Department of English at Virginia Tech’s College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences.

Sano-Franchini is one of 14 new faculty members at the college this fall. These new hires are part of the college’s ongoing efforts to attract renowned scholars to strengthen and expand its teaching, research, and engagement programs. More than 70 full-time permanent faculty members have been added to the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences in the past three years under the leadership of Dean Sue Ott Rowlands.

Sano-Franchini’s research interests are cultural rhetorics, digital rhetoric, Asian-American rhetoric, professional writing, and digital humanities, with the goal of encouraging writers to mindfully engage issues of race and culture. She is teaching courses in professional writing and document design.

Published in a number of scholarly journals, Sano-Franchini's forthcoming works include an edited collection documenting the history of the Conference on College Composition and Communication Asian/Asian American Caucus (Utah State University Press, New City Community Press), a chapter in “Rhetoric and the Digital Humanities” (University of Chicago Press), and a chapter in “Cultures of Copyright” (under contract with Peter Lang).

Sano-Franchini holds a Ph.D. in rhetoric and writing from Michigan State University and a master's and bachelor's in English from the University of Hawaii at Mānoa.
