Inn at Virginia Tech wins two awards
Virginia Tech's on-campus hotel and conference center recently won two top awards, one for its conference facilities and the other for its excellence in providing a venue for weddings.
The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center, which hosts more than 25 weddings each year, earned honors from Virginia Living magazine as one of the top vendors in the commonwealth for brides- and grooms-to-be.
A second award came from ConventionSouth, a national multimedia magazine geared toward event planners. Participating in an online ballot, 6,500 voters chose the inn from among 150 competing properties, as well as convention and visitor bureaus, for a Readers' Choice award. Ten winners in Virginia were chosen, including the Greater Richmond Convention Center and the Colonial Williamsburg Resort Collection.
Also at the inn, the fine-dining restaurant, Preston’s, won recognition for its wines earlier this year with a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence. This is the second consecutive year that Wine Spectator magazine has highlighted Preston's for its handpicked list of wines from around the world with a focus on Virginia producers.
In 2011, Preston’s, unveiled its own private label merlot and chardonnay wines produced by Prince Michel Vineyard and Winery in Madison, Va. Preston's also offers a wine society.
The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center has 147 hotel rooms and suites and 24,000 square feet of conference space, including a 700-seat ballroom, 10 conference rooms, and an assembly hall.
