Virginia Tech dedicates Lavery Hall
Virginia Tech will hold a formal dedication at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, for Lavery Hall, a facility that opened in fall 2012 at 430 Old Turner St. on campus.
Self-guided tours of the building will follow the dedication program.
The Virginia Tech Board of Visitors voted in March to rename the recently completed structure in honor of former Virginia Tech president William E. Lavery, who passed away in 2009. During his tenure from 1975-1987, two of the university’s signature facilities were developed: the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine and the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center.
Under Lavery's guidance, numerous capital projects and curriculum enhancements were realized, and Virginia Tech became recognized as one of the nation’s top 50 research universities. The naming of Lavery Hall offers a lasting homage to an accomplished leader of the university.
The 77,000-square-foot building contains six general-assignment classrooms, houses the Services for Students with Disabilities office, and offers two floors of dining options in a facility called Turner Place.
Parking passes will not be required for guests attending the event who use the university's Lower Stanger or P3 lots. Shuttle service will be provided from those lots to Lavery Hall.
