nanoCamp brings the world of nanoscience to Virginia high school students
Approximately 40 high school students from across Virginia will descend upon the Virginia Tech campus Aug. 4 through 5 to experience first-hand the mysteries and marvels of nanoscience.
Sponsored by Virginia Tech’s College of Science and the Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Science, the two-day nanoCamp will provide students entering grades 9 through 12 the opportunity to learn from leading scholars and researchers through a variety of activities, presentations, and laboratory exercises.
“nanoCamp will engage high-school students in activities that foster engagement and interest in Virginia Tech, science, and nanoscience, in particular,” said Melanie Matthews, education support specialist for new undergraduate programs in the College of Science and nanoCamp coordinator.
Participants will arrive on Saturday, Aug. 4, and will spend the afternoon in college laboratories. Students and their chaperones will spend the night in East Ambler Johnston Residence Hall.
Students will return to the laboratories Sunday morning, Aug. 5, and activities will continue until a closing ceremony at 3:30 p.m.
