In memoriam: Mike Naff, director, Application Information Systems
Michael Frederick (Mike) Naff, director, Application Information Systems, passed away Feb. 10, after a four-year battle with melanoma.
Naff was a resident of Blacksburg and was born in Roanoke on May 24, 1956. He was preceded in death by his father, Frederick Wayne Naff.
Naff is survived by his wife, Diane, of 32 years; and his two children, Lt. Jessica Lynn Naff and Ryan Michael Naff; mother, Phyllis Minter Naff; sister, Marion Naff Kepley and her husband, Jeff and children, Anna and Seth; father-in-law, Robert K. Ropp and mother-in-law, Ethel Williams Ropp; sister-in-law, Debbie Ropp Liebler and husband, Steven; brother-in-law, David Kilmer Ropp; nephews, Kyle (and niece Catherine), Matt, Chase and Allen; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends that he dearly loved. Naff was very proud of his children for their strong character, as well as their life accomplishments. His presence as a loving, wise, and fun husband and father will be greatly missed.
Naff was a 1974 graduate of Cave Spring High School and immediately following his graduation from James Madison University in 1978, he went to work at Virginia Tech. He ended his 34 years of employment at the university as director, Application Information Systems.
There were many other aspects of Naff's life that we will always remember and appreciate. He greatly enjoyed a good golf game, but mostly loved the fellowship with his golf buddies. He was a member of Blacksburg United Methodist Church, Blacksburg Country Club, and a proud member of the Virginia Tech Golden Hokie Club.
A memorial service was held at Blacksburg United Methodist Church Feb. 12.
