Internationally recognized singer Vinson Cole to perform at Virginia Tech
Internationally recognized tenor Vinson Cole will perform a concert on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 8 p.m. in the Squires Recital Salon on the campus of Virginia Tech.
The concert will feature pieces by Beethoven, Richard Strauss, Jules Massenet, Reynaldo Hahn, Joaquin Nin, and will include a group of spirituals. He will be accompanied by Virginia Tech faculty member Tracy Cowden on piano.
Cole is recognized as one of the leading artists of his generation. He has performed with major opera houses across the globe, from the Metropolitan Opera and Opera National de Paris Bastille to Teatro alla Scala Milan and the Vienna State Opera, among many others. Equally celebrated for his concert appearances, he has been a frequent guest of the most prestigious orchestras throughout the world and has collaborated with leading conductors.
Born in Kansas City, Mo., Cole completed his vocal studies at the Curtis Institute of Music under the tutelage of legendary singer and teacher Margaret Harshaw. He was recently given the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation. He was appointed to the Cleveland Institute of Music faculty in 2009 and continues as a professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Tracy Cowden, associate professor of piano and vocal coach at Virginia Tech, has appeared as soloist with the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Southwest Virginia, the Central Ohio Symphony Orchestra, and the Virginia Tech Symphonic Wind Ensemble, and in recitals with principal musicians from the Montreal, Vancouver, Boston, and Columbus symphony orchestras. Cowden is also active as a clinician and lecturer. She received a doctorate in musical arts and a master of music degree in piano accompanying and chamber music from the Eastman School of Music, and a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance form Western Michigan University.
Tickets are $15 general, $10 senior, and $5 student and are available at the Student Centers and Activities Ticket Office on the first floor of Squires Student Center. Tickets may be purchased online or by calling 540 231-5615. Tickets will also be available at the box office beginning one hour prior to the performance.
