The funeral service for Virginia Tech Police Officer Deriek W. Crouse will be held Monday, Dec. 12 at 2 p.m. at Cassell Coliseum on the Virginia Tech campus.

Rev. Tommy McDearis, chaplain for the Blacksburg and Virginia Tech police departments will officiate the service.

In addition to McDearis, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell; Virginia Tech Police Chief Wendell Flinchum; Virginia Tech Police Sergeant Tom Gallemore, and Paul Sweeney, who served with Crouse in the U.S. Army, will speak during the service.

Other officials attending the funeral service include U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith, Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, Virginia Secretary of Education Laura Fornash, Virginia Secretary of Public Safety Marla Graff Decker, and Martin Kent, chief of staff for Gov. McDonnell.

Immediately following the funeral service, a burial service will be held on Memorial Gardens, North Main Street, Blacksburg.

The funeral service will be webcast; the link will be posted on the Virginia Tech homepage.

Doors to Cassell Coliseum will open at 1 p.m. on Monday.

The Coliseum Lot will be closed to permit holders beginning Sunday night to accommodate select funeral guests. In addition to this lot, others attending the funeral may park in the South End Zone or Litton-Reeves lots.

Faculty, staff, and students living on campus who plan to attend the service are encouraged to walk to Cassell Coliseum.

Because of the service, Spring Road from Washington Street to the South End Zone Lot will be closed beginning at noon to approximately 5 p.m. Traffic on Washington Street is expected to be heavy throughout the day; the community is asked to avoid driving in this area if at all possible. Washington Street from Cassell Coliseum to Duck Pond Drive will close beginning at 2:30 p.m. to accommodate the procession of vehicles to the cemetery.

Community members are asked to avoid driving on Southgate and 460 Bypass West from 3 to 4 p.m.to accommodate the burial procession.
