The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets to hold 'Ironman competition'
The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets will be participating in its annual version of an Ironman competition on Sept. 8.
The competition will take place from 3:30-4:45 p.m. at and around the Corps of Cadets obstacle course on Smithfield Road.
Cadet Major Robert Hart of Richmond, Va., a senior majoring in sociology in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences who is a recipient of the Col. Irv Hylton, Jr. '52 Emerging Leader Scholarship explains the purpose of the competition,"The Ironman competition is a great way to start the semester, allowing all the new members of every company a chance to build a sense of camaraderie and esprit de corps while also encouraging physical fitness and competition!" Hart is a member of the Army ROTC program and is the cadet in charge of this year’s Ironman.
Each company will select a cadet to compete in the individual Ironman competition which will include events such as running the obstacle course; 100 pushups; 100 sit-ups; and a 30-pound rucksack run.
The company Ironman competition will consist of company members competing against other companies in pushups; sit-ups; an ammo can run; an obstacle course relay; and finally the tug of war.
Cadet David Reeves of Damascus, Md., a senior majoring in mechanical engineering in the College of Engineering who is a recipient of an Emerging Leader Scholarship and a member of the Marine option of the Naval ROTC program was the individual Ironman winner last year and the company winner was Charlie Corps.
