Virginia Tech Union will sponsor a performance by hypnotist Tom DeLuca and Movie on the Drillfield during Hokie Hi, the annual series of events welcoming new and returning students to campus.

Both events are free and open to the Virginia Tech community.

DeLuca returns for his 14th appearance at Virginia Tech with an audience participation show Aug. 18, at 8 p.m. in Burruss Hall. His shows have been praised for their mixture of imagination, humor, and spontaneity by the likes of the New York Daily News, Variety, and "Good Morning America," and he is a sought-after performer for companies like Microsoft, BMW, and J.P. Morgan. His style has also made him a favorite on college campuses across the nation, with the National Association for Campus Activities and Campus Activities Today both naming him Entertainer of the Year.

The annual Movie on the Drillfield will be Aug. 19, at 9 p.m., and will feature "Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides" starring Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz. Moviegoers should bring their own blankets or lawn chairs, but snacks like popcorn, snow cones, and cotton candy will be provided free of charge. In the event of rain, the movie will be shown in Burruss Hall Auditorium.

Free parking is available around the Drillfield with a visitor’s pass from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. No pass is necessary on the Drillfield after 8 p.m. or on weekends. Parking is also available in the Perry Street Lots and the Perry Street Parking Garage near Prices Fork Road. Find more parking information online or call (540) 231-3200.
