Paula Brewer Byron named communications director at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Research Institute
Paula Brewer Byron, former editor of Harvard Medicine magazine at Harvard Medical School, has joined the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Research Institute as director of communications.
In her new position, Byron will have lead responsibility to disseminate news and to promote and market the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Research Institute, the innovative medical education and research partnership between Virginia Tech and Carilion Clinic.
Byron brings with her more than 20 years of communications experience at Harvard. Under her editorship, Harvard Medicine, formerly known as the Harvard Medical Alumni Bulletin, was named a finalist for the National Magazine Award in General Excellence and garnered more than 30 national editorial awards, including the Robert Sibley Magazine of the Year Award. Byron has also held a range of communications positions at the Harvard School of Public Health.
Byron received her bachelor’s degree in English from Williams College and master’s degree in Asian studies from the University of Michigan.
The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Research Institute joins the basic science, life science, bioinformatics, and engineering strengths of Virginia Tech with the medical practice and medical education experience of Carilion Clinic. Virginia Tech Carilion is located in a new biomedical health sciences campus in Roanoke at 2 Riverside Circle.
