Speaker and consultant Selena Rezvani, who writes and comments about women and leadership in a Washington Post column and National Public Radio’s “51 Percent” podcast, will be the guest speaker at a program hosted by the Pamplin College of Business MBA program on Wednesday, Nov. 17.

The event, “Women, Words, Wisdom,” is scheduled for 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Roanoke’s Taubman Museum of Art.

The event is aimed at helping the next generation of women business leaders plan their career advancement, says Melanie Johnston, associate director of marketing and recruiting at Pamplin’s MBA program. Rezvani, author of The Next Generation of Women Leaders: What You Need to Lead but Won't Learn in Business School, will discuss insights gathered from her interviews with more than 30 female executives from around the nation.

“Rezvani will provide ‘how-to’s on negotiating the workplace as a woman,” Johnston says. “Her advice has helped women at all stages in their careers learn to be their own advocates in professional growth and advancement.”

The speaker is also founder and president of NextGenWomen, a consulting firm that seeks “to propel more women into leadership positions and to help companies position an inclusive workplace as a competitive advantage,” according to her website. In addition to consulting and coaching, she speaks at corporate, academic, and professional association conferences. She has been interviewed and profiled by CareerBuilder, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, ABC, and NBC.

Rezvani is active in the National Association of Women MBAs, where she serves as a vice president and guides new graduates on methods for succeeding at work. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work from New York University and an MBA from Johns Hopkins University, where she graduated first in her class.
