Parking Services continues sustainability efforts by replacing three pickup trucks
Virginia Tech Parking Services has invested in three Kubota RTV1100s. These biodiesel powered utility vehicles allow parking enforcement officers to travel easily and efficiently around campus.
Three full-sized pickup trucks have been replaced by the Kubotas resulting in a significant reduction in fuel consumption. After the purchase of the Kubota vehicles, Parking Services has seen a 50 percent decrease in the amount of fuel needed for their daily operations.
These vehicles also help contribute to the university’s effort to minimize damage to the campus landscape and the small size of the vehicle also enables Parking Services employees to maneuver more easily than a car or truck through parking lots and sidewalks.
“We needed to consider vehicles that were not only fuel-efficient but would also stand strong through our campus operations,” said Bo Frazier, assistant manager for Parking Services. “The Kubotas met all of our needs.”
In addition to the general campus enforcement operations, it was necessary that the vehicle selected would be able to perform jump-starts and carry the equipment necessary for football and special event parking, maintenance, and for helping those who are locked out of their cars.
