Virginia Tech launches innovative travel for employees
Virginia Tech’s award winning Alternative Transportation program is launching another new innovative program for employees who occasionally need vehicles for official university business.
Through Virginia Tech’s contract with U Car Share which originally brought six vehicles to campus in August 2009, a new departmental billing option (http://www.facilities.vt.edu/tcs/alternative/ucarshare.asp#billing) is now available for Virginia Tech departments.
By registering a departmental account with U Car Share, employees within that department are able to reserve and use the U Car Share vehicles for official university business and have the charges billed back to their departmental fund instead of paying out of their pocket and eliminates the hassle of complicated processes and forms involved in reimbursements when employees use their own personal vehicles for such purposes.
Fleet Services is the ideal service for long distance trips that will require the use of a vehicle for at least a half day, but for those quick errands around town or campus, U Car Share provides a quick and convenient option that allows employees to prevent additional wear and tear on their vehicle, and as an added bonus, removes the worry of losing a parking space.
U Car Share’s rates are affordable and low and the ability to set distance and charge limits for employees using the departmental account, eases the worry of such a program being too costly during a time when many departmental budgets are already strained.
