Katherine Wilson joins veterinary college as large animal clinical instructor
Dr. Katherine Wilson has joined the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine as a clinical instructor in large animal medicine.
She comes to the college from Steeles Tavern, Va., where she worked as an associate veterinarian and an internal medicine specialist at Mountain View Equine Hospital. While there, Wilson managed all inpatient and outpatient internal medicine and critical care cases, performed routine ambulatory care for equine patients, and served as the on-grounds veterinarian for most Virginia Horse Center horse shows.
In her new role, Wilson will provide veterinary services for local large animals and manage patient care through the Large Animal Medicine and Surgery Service of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Additionally, she will help mentor veterinary medical residents and students in the large animal medicine track of the college’s veterinary program.
Wilson completed her residency at the veterinary college at Virginia Tech, serving as a large animal internal medicine resident here from 2003 to 2006.
“We are very excited to welcome Katie back to our college,” said Dr. David Hodgson, head of the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences. “Her clinical practice experience and large animal expertise fill a critical need at the college and in the hospital.”
Wilson received her bachelor’s degree from Miami University, a master’s of science from Virginia Tech, and her doctor of veterinary medicine degree from The Ohio State University. She is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners, the American Veterinary Medical Association, Virginia Veterinary Medical Association, the Virginia Association of Equine Practitioners, and Phi Zeta, the honor society of veterinary medicine.
