Hokie Camp provides outstanding experience for new students, leaders
Virginia Tech's New Students Programs recently selected 150 Hokie Camp counselors to welcome the class of 2014. Hokie Camp counselors guide students through three days of activities, group competitions, and sessions that teach new students about life at Virginia Tech.
Hokie Camp takes place in three sessions at Smith Mountain Lake Aug. 9 through 11, Aug. 12 through 14, and Aug. 16 through 18. Registration costs $195, and includes transportation to and from Virginia Tech, lodging, meals, and a T-shirt. Students can sign up online by logging into HokieSPA.
The students selected to welcome and prepare the next incoming class of Hokies through this summer’s Hokie Camp have an excellent leadership opportunity. Counselors interact with new students through small group sessions, icebreakers, and other activities. They supervise new students at the campsite, participate in all camp functions, and meet with the campers three times during the fall semester. They serve to be a resource for new students in all areas of student life throughout the fall semester.
New Students Programs is part of the Office of the Dean of Students, a department within the Division of Student Affairs. The Division of Student Affairs at Virginia Tech encompasses departments dedicated to providing a rich co-curricular experience and essential student services. Virtually every aspect of a student’s life outside the classroom is represented through the division’s departments.
