Richard Stratton honored with emeritus status
Richard Stratton, associate professor of education in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences’ School of Education at Virginia Tech, has been conferred the "professor emeritus" title by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.
The title of emeritus may be conferred on retired professors and associate professors, administrative officers, librarians, and exceptional staff members who are specially recommended to the board of visitors by Virginia Tech President Charles W. Steger. Nominated individuals who are approved by the board of visitors receive an emeritus certificate from the university.
A program area leader in the School of Education, Stratton served on multiple promotion and tenure committees, curriculum committees, and in a range of university support capacities.
He received the Virginia Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance Honor Award and was elected and appointed to multiple American Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance committees. Stratton also served as a collaborator with the Department of Athletics, preparing many of the student-athletes for sports management and performance careers.
Stratton holds a bachelor’s degree from Tarkio College in Missouri, a master’s degree from Georgia Southern University, and a Ph.D. from Florida State University.
