College of Science Magazine explores intersection of science, business, and law
The fall 2009 issue of the Virginia Tech College of Science Magazine explores the business side of science.
“Scientific breakthroughs happen when boundaries are pushed — boundaries of ideas, questions, hypotheses, investigation techniques, and methods of exploration,” said Dean Lay Nam Chang. “The vast array of new products and inventions that are developed from pushing these limits will be part of an extraordinary enterprise in the 21st century.”
The issue features articles about the college’s partnership in a unique intellectual property law degree program as well as the newly certified Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. Other feature stories include National Institutes of Health-funded research on combating malaria, the VT-STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program, and an opportunity for families to participate in an ongoing study about oppositional and defiant behavioral disorder in children.
